TeliSwitch fiber cross-connect technology supports a unique feature set:

Marginal optical impairments and Latched connections attribute to physical fiber connections, where a robotic system plugs standard latching connectors into sockets. Accordingly, optical impairments stem entirely from selected connector performance and once plugged, connections remain unaffected by power failure or instability

Non-blocking and No-rearrange attribute to TeliSwitch patented architecture, implementing Polar rather that Cartesian design. Polar design exploits fiber ability to be slightly twisted without impairing the signal.

The patent

TeliSwitch technology is protected by several registered and pending patents.

The design is constructed around a spine, through which fibers reach plates (white elements in the image). These plates host one or more optical sockets each. Plates can be independently rotated, placing socket at desired angular coordinate.

Design bottom, not visible in the image, hosts vertically placed reels. Every reel holds fiber adequate to reach any plate. Reel structure, allowing pulling the fiber out and collecting it back into the reel, void of fiber damage or optical impairment, is TeliSwitch patented as well.

Thus, fiber extends to desired plate vertically, never crossing any other fiber.

Robotic subsystem establishes connection by rotating plate to desired angle, pulling fiber from the reel up to the target socket and plugging the connector into the socket. Accurate motion mechanics are assisted by visible image analysis. Robotic system removes connection by unplugging and graceful fiber retraction into the reel. Sockets not in use are protected from pollution by standard rubber plugs, as in a manual patch panel. Likewise, connectors not in use are protected from pollution parked at a dedicated parking plate.


TeliSwitch has included special access control features in the AODF to safeguard the integrity of the optical layer infrastructure, preventing unauthorized operation. All communications to and from the AODF are authenticated and encrypted, end-to-end.
